BREAKING IN A YEARLING
Foals are usually born in May,
and become 'yearlings'
after the New Year following.
Yearlings are usually broken
in between July and Septem-
ber, previous to which their
time has been spent at
leisure grazing in their stud
paddocks. We show in our
picture the method whereby
before anyone mounts him, a
yearling is trained to walk,
trot and canter in strong
leather traces, carrying a
saddle on his back.
