    Description

Starr Carbine Civil War Relic Mystery Ball that was serviced by loading a single paper or linen cartridge from the rear
    .
The Starr was a breech loading (from the rear) short rifle called a carbine, so why was this ball extracted from the front with a jag? Perhaps the breech jammed and couldn’t be opened necessitating pulling it out through the muzzle. Maybe the ball was fired through a muzzle loading .54 rifle or carbine, necessitating removal through the muzzle? Found in Central Virginia.
