The first task of the day for
the stable lad is to groom
one of the two horses in his
charge and prepare it for the
walk to the heath with the
first lot to be exercised.
These, who probably set out
before 7 a.m., will return
half-way through the morn-
ing when he prepares his
second horse. His last duty
is 'to do' the horses for the
night, and the trainer inspects
each horse before it is bedded down.
